Japanese Kimono Silk Panels from Morey Art, Japan

Posted: Wednesday 5th March, 2008

We are delighted to announce that we have the pleasure of displaying some Japanese Kimono Silk Panels from Morey Art at the studio. These panels are also be for sale.

Crystal of Morey Art started piecing these panels together in 2000. In Japan, kimono are no longer worn very often, and the more beautiful silks are only brought out on special occasions – the rest of the time they sit in closets. Crystal felt kimono should be displayed, and started piecing them into panels that are more wall-friendly (to display an actual kimono requires a lot of room). The fabrics she uses include kimono silks, linens and wools as well as tenugui and furoshiki. The fabric is secured to the back of wooden boards which eliminates the need for additional framing. Each is original and Crystal is quite happy to take custom orders as she thoroughly enjoys designing them with a space or person in mind.
